BOO BABBLES BLOG intends to understand, contemplate, consider, discuss, recognize, and communicate how to SURVIVE BLINDNESS.My plan is to assist others in understanding some of the frustrations, challenges, obstacles & *YES* rewards to SURVIVING BLINDNESS. Links I post , may or may not, be specifically related to vision loss. Some may be informative, interesting, relevant, meaningful or just plain entertaining. Living with deficits in a world so fast-paced & visual is challenging. It can be done. It takes willingness to adapt to the environment. I have found that it takes courage. I will be 'seeing' you then... BOO -o-o- EXPECT SOME MUSIC TOO!!! ♪♫♪♫♫ ASSUME NOTHING* CLARIFY EVERYTHING♥Will also be presenting my VIEWS on social injustice♥

MY EYE SURGERY 22/8/11
I am diagnosed as 'Legally Blind" A designation to those, for whom surgical procedures or lenses. do not alter the visual impairment. The story of the last 13 years, which led to and continued my vision loss .is long, complicated and complex. A short novel may someday be written explaining same. There are so many reasons for vision loss . All vision loss is different for each individual based on reason for and extent of loss. My vision loss was due to infection (source never determined) Do not get caught up in the #'s IE 20/20 /20/800 They are relevant only to a point. There is also added double , triple etc vision Seeing only spots of light Seeing only half of each eye The list is extensive. In my case the optic nerve of my right eye is dead Means RIGHT eye completely blind Nadda Nothing. My left eye has corneal scarring from the infection Cannot be seen by the naked eye (pun intended), but it impairs my vision tremendously leading to diagnosis of legally blind Now I have a cataract , which has been growing for years Unable to have it done due to other life events of an overwhelming nature Such as stroke and my mother passing away.. Tomorrow I am booked for eye surgery at 1030 a.m. The cataract (or clouded lens ) will be removed A new high tech lens will be inserted.Due to my history It is risky If anything goes wrong as Bleeding behind eye I am doomed to total blindness If all goes well I will get some clarity The Drs remind me I will still be legally blind even with success. But a bit more clarity would rock. I must be extremely careful post op to Limit activities of all sorts May not be on computer for a few days or week That will be very difficult . You may have noted the eye chart . The reason is to try and explain "How much I see" (famous question)I see only a very very very very blurry E. Not even sure if I actually see the E or my brain remembers it . Anyway, maybe post surgery I may see a clearer E. I like it to this; If you have a car windsheild cracked and chipped ,it would be tough to see through Add mud and grime and.... problems++. I feel that getting a new lens will remove the dirt and mud and leave me with just cracked and pitted eye ( so to speak)So , I admit I am quite apprehensive of the risks I remain confident it will go well I have the top surgeon in Toronto . The not eating drinking smoking or other such thing after midnight is annoying but necessary. May the Gods and Goddesses of the universe look down upon me with positive energy and good will. This may be a whole new chapter in my life!!

ReplyDeleteBoo-
ReplyDeleteI periodically read your tweets about Crystal and was so grateful that you recorded her songs in Malone and took the time to post them on youtube.
My mom has had gradual vision loss from several conditions and was classified as legally blind last year. She can't see the E anymore either. I hope your surgery gives you improvement, even a small change might make daily tasks easier. You were very brave to take the risk.
