WELCOME

BOO BABBLES BLOG intends to understand, contemplate, consider, discuss, recognize, and communicate how to SURVIVE BLINDNESS.My plan is to assist others in understanding some of the frustrations, challenges, obstacles & *YES* rewards to SURVIVING BLINDNESS. Links I post , may or may not, be specifically related to vision loss. Some may be informative, interesting, relevant, meaningful or just plain entertaining. Living with deficits in a world so fast-paced & visual is challenging. It can be done. It takes willingness to adapt to the environment. I have found that it takes courage. I will be 'seeing' you then... BOO -o-o- EXPECT SOME MUSIC TOO!!! ♪♫♪♫♫ ASSUME NOTHING* CLARIFY EVERYTHING♥Will also be presenting my VIEWS on social injustice♥

MY EYE SURGERY ~~~ IN MY VIEW~~~ °±°

I have enclosed video for information and reference regarding how the EYE works. I am NOT afflicted with either Macular Degeneration nor Retina Pigmentosa. .For those who are , or have family /friends , afflicted by same; I send you my warmest thoughts and hope for courage. Since I began this blog , 7 months ago, it is apparent to me, that there are some anonymous readers of my blog, .Many of whom have experienced BLINDNESS, either themselves or someone close to them. . My intent for this blog ,was to enable understanding, of vision loss. To enable others , as well as myself, to comprehend vision loss.Try to define it....However, defining  vision loss is like trying to define 'shattered glass'. I use the analogy ''shattered glass' ,as I feel ,it describes my personal experience extremely well ! Each persons experience ,and ability to function with vision loss, is unique .Regardless of the origins of loss or diagnosis , there is no "blind way". I have many thoughts on blindness and how it is to maneuver in the world. But , I digress. My RIGHT eye is basically dead. The optic nerve is dead. This is due to undiagnosed and untreated intraocular pressure( this what glaucoma does). My eyes became infected. No doctor  could explain how I got such an eye infection. . During the * 7 months * it took to heal the infection, somebody forgot to measure the pressure, and voila. Cornea scarred with large white patch. People cannot help but look . Impossible to do a cornea transplant as optic nerve is dead.I am awaiting a referral ,for another surgeon , who will fit me with a prosthetic RIGHT eye. So what about the eye that is left? That would be my LEFT eye. And what is left of my LEFT eye, is not much..My LEFT eye was also infected. However , it does not present with the aforementioned  white patch as on my  right cornea. Consequently, many people ,mistakenly, presume my Left eye is 'ok' . .The infection resulted in my LEFT cornea also being damaged. It is not visible to the 'naked eye"(onlookers) . My way of attempting to describe the corneal damage and how it affects vision is as follows;Imagine a car windshield that has been pitted, cracked, burned, and scarred. No matter what you did/do to the windshield( short of replacing it) -seeing through it would be arduous at best.. Now , imagine a contact lens that has been held over a flame. It would melt it,  and alter the surface of it . It would mangle and distort the view. One may see light, shapes and misinterpreted focus of the environment. ;THIS IS HOW MY LEFT EYE VIEWS EVERYTHING. It cannot be changed. A corneal transplant , if successful , would be great ,BUT Dr's will NOT even consider such surgery because if the transplant failed, and did not 'take' = DARKNESS for me.A cataract had formed in my LEFT eye over the years (?7 to 8). A cataract is a cloudy lens. Often age related, or in my case due to infection. Cataract surgery is the removal of the 'natural' cloudy lens and replaced by an artificial lens. If this is one's ONLY eye issue the success rate of improved vision is great. The cataract surgery was a gamble. The greatest concern before surgery was 'bleeding behind the eye'. This would have been disastrous. The actual surgery went well. No bleeding.A high tech lens was inserted. I was forewarned that I would still be legally blind, even with successful cataract surgery..This I knew. The Drs and I both hoped for "clearer "vision, post surgery. That is not the case. A whole lot more light now comes into my LEFT eye. It is like a CONSTANT SNOW GLARE. I remain legally blind . There really is no improvement or clarity . Just a lot of bright light which seems to impair me more. NOTE: 9 out of 10 people diagnosed as blind or legally blind have (SOME * vision or light perception. This is significant because sensitivity to light is increased. This is the reason so many visually impaired people must wear sunglasses. As ANY light that enters the 'blind' eye(s) is distorted and intense. The sunglasses are not to shield society from 'googly eyes' but to attempt to manage distorted light. So, here I am Still legally blind with more light POURING in... I shall continue to survive the challenge of blindness , I continue to thrive , albeit, tough at times. Courage remains. I have much to do to impact others regarding the truth of vision loss. It is my quest yet undefined.... Please view included videos.....
